Pyramid Lake Overlook and Hidden Wildflowers This past weekend my husband and I went on a hike that took my breath away! The hike was off Quail Canyon Road just before you reach our beautiful Pyramid Lake, NV. To my surprise, this desert hike has turned out to be one of my favorite hikes so far this year. As we drove along the road to our desired starting point, we came across many different types of wildlife. The Quail, especially, were wonderful to watch. It seemed they were in all in love, parading in pairs, and showing up everywhere we looked. I can see why it is called Quail Canyon Road.
During our hike we were amazed by the spectrum of color that filled the mountain side. I couldn’t believe that there were so many flowers still in bloom! My breath was taken away every time we turned a corner and a new color was there to enchant our eyes.

My hips are aching; my knees are weakening and the arches of my feet swollen from hiking uphill for 6 hours with a 45-pound pack on my back. Yet, the pain will never stop me or my desire to explore every inch of these mountains.
On the way to our camp, which we set up at 12,000-feet, I ask myself, “Why do I endure such physical pain?” The answer came three days later. The Colorado 14er's
For five days my husband Erik, our friends, Brian and Chris, and I hiked the 14er’s of Colorado. Starting out of Durango we took a wonderful steam train ride to the base of the Chicago Basin. After being let off, we hiked our way to 12,000 feet where we set up camp and called it home for the next four days. Read 2 Comments... >> |

by Judith Harlan, one of the happy hikers. The After-work June 11 hike was fabulous. What an evening. We were still having interesting weather, the trail was all ours, and the group friendly and willing to follow turns in the trail. We have a few photos on the Blue Sky Facebook page. Click here to connect direct to that: http://tinyurl.com/mz6kmz And the next Blue Sky Hike is signing up now. If you're up for the June 27, beginner to moderate conditioning hike at Thomas Creek, contact Kellie right away:

The Mother's Day hike was our first Blue Sky Hikes outing and it was terrific! Fabulous! Fun!. We met at Walden's Coffeehouse and then headed up to the Steamboat Ditch trail. The weather was beautiful and our hikers were too! We hiked a bit further than we intended, but the challenge was nicely within reach of one and all. What a day! Click here to see our photos of the Blue Sky Mother's Day Hike. Facebook is where we all stay connected with each other, find out who's hiking where, and when, and if they want company. Due to the high demand of women who are looking for hiking buddies and trails, Kellie Lee, owner of Blue Sky Inspirations, was inspired to form Blue Sky Hikes. Here's the scoop: Starting out we will be organizing hikes once a month, if the response is good we will add more. For a small charge we will be offering different levels of hiking, from beginner to advanced. We will rotate hikes each month, some will have special themes and others will just be a simple hike. -- Kellie We're hiking in June. And More in July.
